Welcome to Social Emancipation Summer School's Registration Form!
Let's get started

Social Emancipation Summer School will take place from August 5th to August 14th 2018.

Political opposition and social mobilization seem to be no longer confined by previous conceptual frameworks. Social movements are no longer explaining and inspiring diverse refusals that are exploring alternatives beyond a post-capitalist, post-patriarchal, and post-racial world. Much of the innovation beyond post-development emerges from “societies in movement,” collective, locally rooted community formations articulated around comunalidad, buen vivir, to name just two prominent decolonial, non-Western articulations that provide an avenue outside the current crisis of late capitalism.

It is in this context that emancipation has taken on different resonances across the Global South and the Global South in the Global North. This gathering is an invitation to convene a convivial space of prominent thinkers engaged in these questions, facilitating critical dialogues in search of convivial tools, that is, tools for community regeneration beyond the structures of what Ivan Illich defined as the industrial mode of production.

The western notions of development and good life are bankrupt; they have lead us into a seemingly unstoppable ecological and social crisis. This Seminar directed to post-graduate students brings together for the first time the critical power of post-development, comunalidad, buen vivir, and decoloniality. It is hosted by the Universidad de la Tierra, Oaxaca, a long-standing house of learning that unlike conventional universities works in close connection with social movements and indigenous communities. Key figures of the three currents of thought will participate in the Seminar.

Speakers:
Valiana Aguilar, Maylei Blackwell, Manolo Callahan, Arturo Escobar, Gustavo Esteva, Stefano Harney, Xóchitl Leyva, Mauricio González, Raquel Gutiérrez, Rosalba Icaza, Jaime Luna, Walter Mignolo, Fred Moten, Shanon Speed and Rolando Vázquez.

The total cost of the seminar is $1,800 USD.
This includes lodging costs, 3 meals per day, trips to the countryside and attendance to the seminar.
